Why a satellite communicator
The Garmin inReach Mini 2 connects you over the global Iridium satellite network – even where there is no mobile signal. For a single high tour, a trekking trip or a long-distance hike, buying rarely pays off. Renting is the cheaper, flexible option: you only pay for the days you need the device.
Typical uses: Alpine crossings, via ferrata and high tours, ski touring, bikepacking, canoe and packrafting trips, hunting and forestry in remote terrain, travel off the beaten track.
inReach or phone?
A phone only works with coverage. The inReach sends SOS, messages and your position via satellite – independent of mobile networks, worldwide.

How does the rental work?
Choose a plan and rental period, enter your details and pay securely via Stripe. We then post the Garmin inReach Mini 2 to you – in time before the rental start. After payment you add your SOS emergency contacts on the confirmation page.
What does it cost?
From 46,80 € per rental on the SOS plan, from 82,80 € on Safety and from 118,80 € on Tracking – each incl. 20% VAT. There is also a deposit of 150,00 €, fully refunded after proper return. Outbound shipping is 6,00 € up to 10 days' rental, free from 11 days.
Do I need my own Garmin subscription?
No. An active satellite subscription is included for the rental period. The device stays registered on our Garmin account; you use it as a guest device in the free Garmin Explore app.
How does the SOS work?
Over the global Iridium satellite network you reach the Garmin Response emergency centre around the clock. The SOS button is only for genuine emergencies. The centre coordinates the rescue and contacts your stored emergency contacts.
Which countries do you ship to?
Shipping and return are possible within Österreich and Deutschland.
How early do I need to book?
The rental can start at the earliest 3 working days after booking so the device reaches you in time. A few additional working days around existing bookings are blocked for shipping and checks.
How do I return the device?
The return is organised and paid for by the renter. The device must be sent back at the latest the day after the rental ends – complete with all accessories. For late returns, additional rental days plus a late fee of 30,00 € apply. Please keep the postage receipt until the deposit has been refunded.
When do I get the deposit back?
After a complete and proper return and a short function check, we refund the deposit of 150,00 € the same way it was paid – usually within 3 working days.
What happens in case of damage or loss?
Repair or replacement costs and missing accessories are offset against the deposit. If the damage exceeds the deposit, we invoice the difference.
Can I change or cancel a booking?
As long as the device has not been shipped, you can cancel free of charge and get a full refund – just email garminrentals@wehrstrom.at. After shipping, cancellation is no longer possible, but we will find a solution where we can.
